The Battle of the Bulge By John Toland
The Battle of the Bulge, by John Toland, is about the battle mounted by the Nazi Party as a last attempt to stop the Allied advance.
The Battle of the Bulge starts out as a last minute attempt thought of by the leader of the Nazi party, and dictator of Germany, Adolf Hitler. He planned on infiltrating a very lightly defended area on the American line in Belgium near Bastogne. If they could break that area, they could flow in and attack the rest of the Allies in the area, and begin to flow in and take back the land that they lost. The operation was called, "Watch on the Rhine." When they attacked, it was the middle of December. The Americans and the Nazis fought for about a month, then the Nazis drew back. It was the last major German offensive for the rest of the war.
I would recommend this book to people from 10 and up, because it has many facts, is easy to follow, and the author was very sure of himself when he wrote it, so he did a good job. The book is very descriptive in explaining the events of the battle at Bastogne.
